26 - 4 APRIL EASTER IN OAXACA

I just returned from the Mountain visit and wasted a day trying to pick up my passport at the DHL office which was closed.  I did some shopping to restock then enjoyed lunch at M and M.  Marito and Magolie Cafe. I returned home and had a great sleep.

The following day was Good Friday  "Silent Procession". I stopped at YUKU and met my neighbor Lee so ordered what he had that looked so good.  I attended the silent procession, which was refreshing to have quiet in Mexico. It was well attended and DHL was open so I picked up my new passport good for another 10 years.  Can't wait to renew this new one! Still hungry I stopped in EDO to finish my dinner I started at YUKU.

                                          Police vehicle.

Easter Sunday I went to La Jicara for a Salmon Dinner with Sweet Potatoes and Green Beans. Very good. Streets were empty and I stopped for a nightcap at a local Mezcaleria.  They had food so I will return to try it out.

Monday I tried to find the house I might rent. I looked up the address but when I arrived had no clue where is was.  I will call the tenant this week so I can visit it and see if I want to move in or stay where I am and pay for an A/C Heater Unit.  I shopped a bit nearby at Cherdaui and took a taxi home where I made a Lemon Pasta dish with Sardines...highly recommended!

My Grandson Jarred, sent me an announcement.  His partner is pregnant and they are having a boy in May named Miles Taylor. My first offspring to carry on the family heritage and name.  I was honored.
Lemon Pasta with Spinach and Sardines

I visited Cafe Elfo to hear some really great Jazz and have a nice Old Fashion. Been a long time.

Today I stopped to have a snack at Democrats Abroad Coffee gathering.  I found out that Elisio, the Father of Hector, the owner of the complex I lived at for 7 years had passed away in his sleep last night.  I walked down to pay respects to the family and then stopped at M&M for a Flat White and Yogurt with Chia Pudding, granola and fruit. Did a bit of shopping and returned by bus.

I had lunch today at M & M again. A fantastic Tuna Salad Sandwich.
Later that evening I visited EDO for my Sushi Fix and a Steak Dinner. I stopped in Cuish, a Mezcal Bar for a Mezcalrita before home.

Tita Bonita was today's breakfast. Very nice recommendation from my friend Marc.

10 Fruits: Blueberry, Blackberry,Grapes,Apples, Melon, Pineapple Watermelon, Strawberries, Kiwi and Banana

I added Greek Yogurt and Granola with Fresh Squeezed O.J. with Ginger.

The Eggs were served on a bed of Black Beans with Cabbage, Radish and Avocado in a Hot Mortar Bowl.

Returned to EDO rooftop for dinner.

The Original Tasty Vin was my treat for dinner with a trip through a favorite "junk" antique, art shop and then a Photo Museum.

A new Oriental/Ramen Chain or want a be Chain Restaurant called NEN opened up on my Street.  Had to try it.

It's graduation ceremonies around town and another 15th Birthday.

Lee and I visited EDO for dinner on the rooftop.

Lee pointed out a new breakfast place I had not tried.  The next "Overcast" morning I tried it out.

3 slices of Bacon fried in deep fat fryer until crisp but tasteless. The rolls were extremely dry.  Green Juice bland. Cordado Coffee was espresso with a splash of foam. Eggs and sauce were OK but not described on the menu.

This is pollution...

Stephano and I enjoyed lunch at Adrian's Casa Celia. Adrian did a video interview of my telling my favorite dishes I would recommend at Casa Celia.

I had a salad then fresh Sea Bass with Vegetables. Stephano had the Lasagna and a Chocolate Tart for dessert.  I was remiss and didn't get all the photos.  Next time.

Next evening dinner at El Jicara.
Fresh Salmon on Sweet Potato with Green Beans...very good.

More wildlife from Doug in Central N.Y.

Love the colors and variety. I went for a walk to a tent set up for  Cuban Music and food in Support of Assisting Cuba with Trump's cruel blockade causing so much suffering there. My timing was off so it was over...I had a Sorbet and wandered around the damp dark evening. Ran into a Concert and a wedding.

Sunday morning is so quiet and peaceful.  I treated myself to breakfast at Zangunda.

Pork Empanadas in a Mole Sauce...very good.

Zapotec Eggs...if you can find them. Fried until grisly and hard then rolled up and covered with nuts and veggies in a tomato sauce...not so great. Formally Biznaga, the restaurant is one of the nicest in Oaxaca but food was not near as good as Biznaga's was.

That evening I treated myself to dinner at our local Adama Middle East Restaurant where I had a fantastic meal as usual.

Monday with Madeleine and dominos...Wow I won!  I was still waiting for my A/C unit that I was told would arrive today, so we cancelled our lunch plans and I sat around all day...nada. Tuesday I called and was told ...today...around 4 pm it arrived.  They brought it up the stairs for nothing but I gave them a tip and was happy to now have completed my end of the installation. I ran off to Aquacate for a Budha Lentil Bowl. That night I sat sweating in the heat while my AC sat next to me on the floor.

Today I working on getting rid of Spy Google starting with my email. Don't forget to change it to davidinnewriver@pm.me.  It will be another month to change all the 57 sites that I sign in with Google and to start a new Photo program which I hope to get the bugs out by the next blog. I left this morning before the heat to visit the ATM, pick up some Greek Yogurt $8 and a pound of coffee beans $15 .  The Cafe Bre to try the breakfast...but after 10 minutes of looking at an empty room and unappetizing menu, I left for Cafe Nuevo Mundo...an old standby I had not visited in over a year. It is well know for Roasting Coffee but the Flat White I ordered was not close to M & M's but then few are.  Good Breakfast. Fried Eggs with soft yolk on Blue Tortillas with excellent cheese melted a top and Ham and Peas mixed in a really good Tomato sauce. $11 includes the tip. Very good service and food.

Neighbor's car hauling paintings to her Art Auction....

                         Cafe Bre...not very popular.

                                           Not a Flat White.

Very good Comfort Food Breakfast....

Our new Air Conditioned bus for 60 cents..

Last post for this month and thank you all.  Spending more time alone.  Enjoying reading and attacking projects ( AC/Heater, New Plants, Goodbye Google ,and all your updates, Gemini pop-ups, Photo screw-ups...you should have stayed the way you were!). I thrive on aloneness but have been missing my friends...that will change.

I did make some really nice new friends this year, Andre and Mona, Deanna, Ming, Robin, and Harley...and did enjoy snowbirds visiting with John and Carla, Marc and Judi, Eric and Alice, Lynn, Helen, Portia, Deke, Barbara, Halina, the "Pool Gang, Doug, David, Bill, Chris, Finn, Allen, etc.   Dominos with Maddie, my wonderful Neighbors, Stephano, Lee, Vince, Avie, Gaby, and Susie.  Also, my fellow Oaxaquenos, Steve, Hector 1 and Hector 2, Lulu, Chris, Elizabeth, Greg and Abby, David and Carol, Peter and Abe, Will and Theo, Pedro, Juan, Gina, Geraldo, Eliz, the Democrat Abroad crowd. All those I continue to share my life with ,and looking forward to the return of the snowbirds ,and ,meanwhile I will continue to enjoy wonderful food in Oaxaca and those who make it possible: my fellow waiters, waitresses, and restaurant owners.

I guess I'm not alone after all. Nothing planned for May...just my projects and travel plans.  I also have to acknowledge all of you subscribers.  Though we don't see or converse on a regular basis, when I had to change my email contacts to a new provider, I only notified those that really mattered. The ones I have exchanged emails with over the years ,and all of my subscribers, with the exception of the few that have expressed an interest in Oaxaca and my travels, I do consider good friends.

That includes my old "family" back in Phoenix and Attica, Nancy, Christine, Doug and Kat, Penny, Becky, Marjorie, John and Jean, Mary Z, Bev P., Lonny in Idaho, John in PTown, Karen in the Villages, Chrissy, Andy, Sona, Debbie, almost all of my 154 subscribers, and the ones I didn't mention. Thank you.

It would take another post.  Thank you all so much and, for the few who are no longer...you are still in my heart and in my life. With love..
......amigo david
