26 - 6 JUNE IN OAXACA...Starting of the Rainy Season and Temperatures back into the 70's?

This last month was stressful but accomplished a lot and now get to relax a bit and enjoy walking.  Most afternoons were to hot from 11:30 to 6:30 to go out in the sun. I now have my A/C - Heater so can be comfortable at home year round.
I have new neighbors, a couple below from Tulsa area in Oklahoma, and another couple next door.  He is a Chef at an upscale restaurant in Oaxaca. Then of course Gaby is back and settled back into her place just next door also.

The last two days of May I stopped at M & M for their Greek Salad and treated myself to a Matcha Mango Latte!  That evening I ate at El Jicara and ordered my favortie Salmon dish.

Last day of May I went to Tio (Uncle) ? forgot his name, for their dinner special of Chicken Breast Stuffed with Mushroons served with Rice...forgot the photo.  Enjoyed a Bean Soup with my Wine before.

The first day of June, Maddie beat me again in Mexican Dominos before we taxied to Santa Herbal in Jalaltco for lunch.  She had a Chicken Sandwich and I had Poached Eggs with Spanish Ham and Potatoes...none of which I photoed! I got my Fruit Salad and Cafe!

We took a Taxi because of the heat...doggie beats the heat!

Melon,Banana,Blackberries,Blueberries, Rasberries, Strawberries, Kiwi,Apple,Pears, and Papaya...no Pineapple?

Doug, part of our High School family, sent his recent full moon and spring flowers from Central N.Y.! I thought it best to enlarge it so you can SEE thr Craters.

My next door neighbor, Yovegami Moro, made a movie a while back, about his village being destroyed in a storm and how they got together and rebuilt it.  He flew to Germany to receive an award for the documentary.  It was featured in the Theater in Oaxaca one or two years ago but was by invite only.  He left yesterday to receive another award in Toronto. He is married and has a lovely 5 or 6 year old daughter.  Baco Viejo click for the trailer.

Just notified I have a new Great Grand Son: Miles Elliot Taylor

The hand is father Jarred, my proud grandson. Elsye the mother is doing fine! I took a long walk today...5 miles to Cafe Local but they were packed.  No place to sit or stand out in the hot sun, so walked more and returned...still packed.  I tried the Pachote Market Restaurant which had been very good.  I had Enchiladas Suiza with two fried eggs..SOFT...came hard. Meal was OK.  I walked home and later that evening had dinner at Yuku nearby...as it was raining. Blue Fin Tuna Roll and Shrimp Teriayaki?

Blockades and protesters still living in Tents the streets of downtown, slowing and backing up traffic while blocking the sidewalks and roads.  No fun. Rain has cooled the weather and improved the pollution.

The next day, my Linux computer crashed, forceing me to edit photos with a Google Photos app that isn't working well.  I went for a long walk when Vincent informed me he doesn't know anything about Linux. The tents were everywhere.  I stopped by Terranova, a Zocalo Restaurant that is usually busy but Pedro , the waiter said they are dying because nobody can get access to the restaurants or other businesses in the area.

Terranova Usually full

                                                 Shoe store

                            Long line of traffic...no buses?

I had a bird trying to get in through the window, that was relentless.  I finally went over to LLano Park where I missed most of the Gay Pride Parade, then had dinner at a Hotel that used to be one of 5 big Haciendas of which the families controlled a lot of Oaxaca and this one also had the Park and surrounding areas. It is now a hotel and a So So restaurant but a nice dining room and grounds.

Filet of Fresh Dorado?...too much sauce and HOT Peppers.Veracruz style.
Cabouche's is much better...none as good as Taylor's Chowda House!

I walked to Maddie's hotel for our Domino's game and proud to say I broke her 3 week winning streak. She came to my favorite M & M restaurant, not far to try it out.  She had their BLT and I had the Chia Pudding and M & M special Poached Eggs with Turish Yogurt...no pics? Sorry too busy eating breakfast at Noon.

                              Rained a bit after...drizzled.
Following day...stayed in to work on photos...got to get new editing program or uninstall Google Photos then reinstall with a new Google Photos app. If I still have problems...it's my Dell computer!

             Lilly...my daughter's new 4 month old Puppy.

Took my umbrella but didn't need it. Went to Jicara again but had a salad and Shrimp Ceviche...both excellent.  Spotted a new Pizza restaurant on the way back? Hmmm..

This morning I watch Juana's (a maid here since I arrived) MOTHER who comes everymorning and tends the area around the center of the compound.  She consoladates the trash into one big container and lugs in uphill and out to the sidewalk then puts out all the bags of trash for street pickup and returns to sweep , rake and trim the garden area.  I think she is my age?

Robin and I enjoyed breakfast at our local organic Market and I took some heritage tomatoes home for my Greek Salad lunch.

I caught a cold and ignored it for a day but I had a bad night and it was worse, so I went to Dr Nellie without an appointment and she made room for me but one appointment before.  He turned out to be a friend that came over with Deanna on St Patrick's Day and we celebrated on the rooftop. Good to see people I know.
Dr Nellie is good. She gave me a Zip Pack of Antibiotics, which I shy away from but not now! Also some decongestants and Alka Selzer.  One day and now I feel so much better and on the way to recovery within the week for sure.
A cyclone came to Mexico City and flooded it BAD.  I turned on the TV and asked Google what's the weather in Oaxaca today...and I heard her say 97% hi 78% low and look at the TV to verify it.  Oh my God...then I noticed she misunderstood and gave me the weather for the Mohave Desert. 78% today and cloudy in Oaxaca.

Casa Celia is opened on Mondays now when most places are closed.  I had a late lunch there and ordered the Beet Salad and Roast Pork with Apples.  Salad was great as was the Pork except the Port was enough for two people to share.  I didn't complain but it was a slow walk back home.

Stefano and I had lunch today at Casa Barro's Mexican Restaurant on the top floor.  He had Lasanga and I had seafood Ceviche.  Nice lunch and conversation.

Humar, Salma and Arnud's Seafood Restaurant opened a second location on my street. Maddie and I are lunching there on Saturday.

I did a photowalk the next day.  The tents and protesters were still blockading the Zocalo and killing business as well as for the Taxis.  The traffic is so backed up, they get a fare the takes three times the gas and time to drop them off so they are doing 1/3 or less the business since this began weeks ago
.

Trash day on my street...all the residents and shopkeeper form a constant procession to drop off their trash.

I am trying to start my day with a morning walk instead of TV news and coffee.

I ran into Stefano this morning on my walk.  He does the same. It was only a mile and 15-30 minutes but so refreshing and a great way to start the day.

I was looking forward to Sunday mornings because it's so quiet and few people out....but to my surprise a Marathon was in progress and a band was playing running music as they came into the back stretch with people every thirty yards handing the runners bags of ice water, or gatorade they packaged and froze.  Great idea since even at 8:30 it is hot in the sun. One runner started dancing when he got to the live band music!

                                        The Finish Line

Dominos at Maddie hotel this morning with eats after at Yogolie.

Family run hotel...everything is special even the toilet paper roll in the lobby restroom. Note the waste basket...NO TOILET PAPER IN THE TOILET ANY WHERE THAT I HAVE BEEN IN MEXICO.  The owner did all the landscaping, repairs, mainatence, etc.  The service is the best and the place it really clean and organized. I was a Housekeeper at a 500 room Holiday in with a Cabaret, three restaurants, big pool, entertainment...but give me a Mom and Pop hotel like this anyday.

I enjoyed a second breakfast while Maddie had a Salmon Bagel and salad, both were good.

I laid low for a couple days.  Visited La Jicara and tried an Italian Breaded and Sauteed Slice of Beef with Cheese and Sliced Tomatoes.  It was a bit tough but tasty.  The next day I walked around and ended up in a part of Oaxaca on the Eastside where I found a small Mom and Pop place called Santos so tried their Chicken Leg Mole with Rice. Excellent all the way around. Today Karla and her son Jose showed up. We watched Democracy Now's coverage of the Mamouth Venezuelan Earthquake where her family is located but unharmed and away from the major destruction. I took a long walk to the library and spent some time chatting with familiar friends.  It was nice for a change.

World Cup is a really big deal, all over the world...especially here in Oaxaca. Go Mexico!

Top of the line Singer sewing machine...like the one Grama made Barbie Doll clothes and Mom made my clothes until 5th grade.

The World Cup exhibit and these photos were at the Stamp Museum.

I continued my walk to the Pachote Market and bought some eggs, tomatoes and Purslane...high protien green delicious plant that I add to salads, soups, and sandwiches.  I forgot my Trader Joes Bag so just used theirs. Eggs are sold in a bag.  That evening I tried out BIGA PIZZA...not bad.  The salad was great.

This Saturday I walked to M & M for Turkish Yogurt and Eggs breakfast...so good.  Another Marathon too. After they left the starting line, Copal Inscense was burned into the air.

Typical sight...two grandchildren walking their Grandmother.

In the street, but in the shade...a homeless man sleeps.

Sunday morning walk, I noted that Graduations were still going on along with all the relatives and photos. I passed a lady jumping rope without the rope.

Another walk to M & M for my Turkish Eggs and Flat White Cafe.

Imprompto Photo of Lena, Gaby's maid and companion...speaks English and Spanish fluently and is a graphic designer who looks like Betty Boop from a different angle...lousy photo as she was starting to stick out her tounge at me! Oh to be young!?  I will close this post today.
I leave in two weeks for Montreal Canada and will be staying with Ming, the SERVAS person I hosted a few months ago.  She is hosting me in Old Town Montreal...couldn't pass up that. I will spend August in Arizona then return to spend September here before leaving to enjoy October in Zaandfort Holland!!!
