24 - 1 A NEW YEAR HAS BEGUN...?

I was told every place was closed on New Year's Day. Well almost right.  I had to go a distance to the "supermercado" Cherdaui. I walked since the buses weren't as frequent.

I made the 1 1/2 miles without seeing many cars or people.  Cherduai looked closed when I arrived but it wasn't. I bought some things and then ordered a reclining chair that was on special. It took a while to communicate delivery but it worked and I left to return.

I tried to get a selfie of me in the middle of the intersection?

I greeted myself on the way...almost home.

When I departed the entrance area was covered with fireworks from last night but when I arrived the neighbor had swept most up.

I sat on my terrace contemplating the Garden across the street and thoughts of what the following year will be like. My uncle sent me greetings from his visit with his grandchildren.

Let's hope! He and I are the only male Taylor's left to carry on.

My chair was delivered the next day by ONE man who carried it up 2 flights of stairs on his back. I couldn't get a photo because I was guiding him. He could only look down. I tipped him well. He was happy. I decided to walk again but this time, everything was open and everyone was out. The Three Kings pass out a gift to the children in the New Year...not gifts under the tree at Christmas.

I think I was his only delivery that day.

It is very common to see lots of people holding hands in Oaxaca!

A painting of Maria Sanchez (?) the one who showed the world the Mushroom Ceremony in 1950's and was in Life Magazine. Later her village turned against her and she was vilified.

These sandals are made from those loops I used to make potholders   as a boy and sell them 2 for 25 cents door to door.

                        Handmade baby clothes.

This got my attention and my Money

Bittersweet chocolate bar on the right is...or was the best I've ever had.

I stopped at an upscale Hotel Restaurant for a Hamburger and Pork Dumplings.

It was good but not for the price. Pickles sucked as did the potato patties?

I opened and ate most of that candy bar.

I started playing pool on Wednesday and Friday.

The Gang was out in force. It was fun

Lots of Classic VW's in Mexico

My friend Marjorie is in Hanoi Vietnam and sent a couple photos.
I did a long photowalk the next day. It was 5 miles and excellent.

Got a Take Out Meal to go when I got close to home.

Today turned out to be the beginning of the Politics to kick off this
Presidential Election Year.

Liverpool Hall beckons me back.  I had lunch after then my fantastic massage and home.

                             New Restaurant to try....

                                                                 Click to hear

Slept late Saturday so didn't fix breakfast but instead ate 2 of them at
Ayuk.  I took a short walk to the Stamp Museum then home for the day.

Sunday, I met Marc and Judi for "Lunch" at Cevicheria. We walked...

                                      My Ceviche....

Marc and Judi opted for Shrimp Tacos

I started with fresh Baja Oysters that were fantastic.

Guacamole

                                       Mexican Dog

Time for a haircut but my Barber gave me a new hire to try. I was skeptical but she did a fantastic cut and is now my new barber.

I stopped at a favorite breakfast-lunch small well run excellent place for Chicken Salad lunch.

Then returned home until late afternoon when I decided to try a Korean Place I had been to when they first opened last year but hadn't ate at yet. Marc and Judi ate their and gave it a thumbs up. I tried it and agreed!! I started with a Soju. Very popular in Korea. Telaseu is located on Los Libras. Everything was delicious.

Missed breakfast today so had Chicken Soup and Grilled Chicken and Salad at Ayuk...but was so hungry I forgot to photo the latter.

Gaby, took the Red Eye flight from Tijuana and arrived early this morning but is asleep now so will visit her later.  Later she was still
catching up so I spent the day relaxing.

Wednesday I headed for the pool hall and a few games before having lunch with Marc and Judi at the "Other" Korean restaurant, Dururu. Very nice also and the food was good too. Got in a photowalk also.

Still no Gaby so off to Dominos at the library with Marc, Judi, and friend. I lost but enjoyed my first game at the library since I moved.
I opted to check out Tamburini Italian Restaurant but when I arrived they hadn't opened yet so visited Tasty Vin for the house salad and went home.

Early that evening my curiosity got the better and I returned to Tamburini.  It was OK and I ordered a Pizza to take home. I passed through Llano park and noticed the Ice Rink was gone and they were packing everything up.

Friday, back at the pool hall with some games with Marc and Kurt. Fun afternoon. Marc and I visited Quinque for lunch. Marc enjoyed his Tacos while I the Chicken with Mushroom and Cheese stuffing, Rice and a Salad.

Later that afternoon, I attended a Classical Concert at Casa Barro. It was a fundraiser for the Learning Center.  I left my donation and sat in the sun (only available seats left) until I couldn't take it anymore and left. It was hotter than normal for this time of year in Oaxaca. Didn't even take photos...sorry.

This morning I left to have Brunch at Aquacate. It was great. I returned to some photos from my friend and High School classmate, Doug. He is an excellent photographer and was doing a shoot of the 2024 Polar Plunge in the Lake in the New York State Adirondack region.

                     Doug got there early...brrrrrr!

Sunday was Chipeche for Breakfast...no food photos.

Martin Luther King Day....a photowalk about then lunch at Ayuk with Hector.
