23 - 10 OCTOBER MY LIBRA BIRTHDAY...TURN 78 ON THE 5TH.

The flight went remarkably well. One close call when I arrived in Mexico City on Aeromexico and had to connect with my Delta flight to Atlanta. We exited the plane and I was trying to find my connection when we were put in a line.  I went to the front, complaining my plane was boarding and leaving in 10 minutes. They looked at my Delta ticket and yelled out, "If anyone else is going on Delta to Atlanta, follow this person". A young girl motioned for me to follow and my Egyptian friend I met in line was also with me.  She bolted and started running. We followed for 10 minutes, upstairs, downstairs, around corners until we arrived at a Gate with an attendant motioning us to board the plane.  I was the last person on the plane, sat and they took off immediately. In my years of flying there was only one other close call like that.  I was OK and relieved.  I would not have been able to do that last year with my intermittent claudation in my legs, unless that girl pushed me in a wheelchair.  I am blessed.

A small layover in Atlanta

gave me time to get a bite to eat, then the sun was shining when I arrived in Buffalo and my rent a car waiting. I drove to Batavia and stopped at Alex's for a Beef on Wick togo. I wasn't sure if I could get food in Attica but now Louie's Bar is a great place for food and beverages.   I checked in to my room at the Attican Motel for 3 days of NO HEAT...they gave me a space heater or hot shower...I took a sponge bath from the sink that had hot water.

In Attica with my heart in Amsterdam!
I was happy.  I put the $14 Beef on Wick in Refrigerator and got a nice hot $10 Beef on Wick at Louie's while getting into the Attica frame of mind. Very crowded with happy people enjoying the food, drink, playing pool, enjoying the sunset on the patio, chatting it up with their neighbors, the way it used to be.

I drove around Attica a bit the next day and had breakfast at Twilight Meadows

.
..then drove to Helen's place in Rochester for lunch at the Eastman House and visit with Helen, my travel friend of many years who also spends time in Oaxaca.

We walked over to the George Eastman House, enjoyed our visit and lunch then walked the gardens before returning to her home and Attica.

I lived, on and off in this Park Ave neighborhood for years and loved it, even in the Winter!

September 29, Mexico celebrates Día Nacional del Maíz -- a day honoring the sacred maíz, symbol of the country and base food crop for most of the nation.

I arrived back in Attica at the American Legion Post in time for our group Friday Fish Fry gathering. Bob and Harriet, old friends greeted me.  They drove up from Cuba N.Y. area to join me. Bob and I did Basic Training in 1966 at Ft Dix then met when we were sent to OJT Training at Ft Stewart Georgia. We served in the same battalion and both were cooks. Our unit went to Vietnam on a boat and settled in Bien Hoa on a perimeter of the airbase there. We were split up later but have remained close friends since.
My classmates from High School were also there for our first get together. The ladies got there picture taken and we adjourned until tomorrow.

My rented car had an Attention Alert Level? Wonder if they knew I smashed up the last rental from Buffalo?

I skipped the H.S. tour in the morning and had another Twilight Meadow Breakfast then after visiting the family burial in the cemetery, I went to the Historical Society Museum and got pictures from Attica H.S. 1933   of my Dad and his sister.
I then visited the Cannon Covered Bridge near Cowlesville.   We were invited to Rosie's home for lunch. I missed the crowd but John and Carla (the following week left for Oaxaca to find a winter home) joined me for a wonderful meal.

'49 Ford "Flathead 6 Cyl" Convertible.  I saw him coming, stopped and flagged him down to take a photo.

He put the top down and drove off with his lady by his side in the front "bench seat".

Doug and Rosies home was lovely. This is just a bit of the beautiful property the home is on.

I returned in time for the start of the reunion at the Attica Country Club where I used to "Caddie for a time."
Marie, Karen, Becky and others all had a wonderful
display of those classmates that have passed on in life as well as some of our history at Attica and past reunions. We had a fantastic time. Bob Disinger called to say hello to all from Florida and 16 people showed with their partners and Udene's husband came too.

All  ready for our next "65th"

I retired early. Woke and had my last breakfast at the Meadows. Returned to Check out then off to Buffalo to  turn in my car and meet my daughter at the Airport for lunch.

We had a nice visit and she treated me for my Birthday then presented me a beautiful Birthday Card. Great time.  I returned on a SWest direct flight and was home at Jeannie's condo by 6.

The next day I took Uber with a Russian lady driver, to Zookz for a Breakfast Pie..real comfort food.

Then walked to my Urologists, who informed me...I had no appointment but gave me blood tests. My good friend Bruce picked me up and took me Costco to pick up Vitamins, then to the Dentists for a cleaning. We had lunch at Randy's before dropping me off at the house. Thanks Bruce.

Next morning I walked to Randy's for Breakfast.

...then Ubered to Dr Arneke's office for routine visit and Flu Shot.  Uber took me to my Dermatologist for a check up and I walked home.
Marjorie picked me up for Happy Hour with a stop at Walmart for Covid and RSV Shots. We were having  dinner at Grassroots when the waitress brought us another glass of wine that the fellow at the bar bought. It turned out to be Andy, who for a short time rented a room from me when I lived at Turtle Rock. He was my bartender for years when I "lived" at the Dubliner. Now he owns Seamus McCaffery's Irish Pub on Adams and was in town from his home in Pinetop to check up on things.  He joined us and we had a wonderful visit.
When Marjorie dropped me off at Scottsdale Shadows, I got in the elevator and the woman and her son that live on the 3 rd floor were there.  Her eyes lit up and she exclaimed how nice it was to see me.  She said you were always the nicest person in this whole building and I don't just say that...I mean it!  It is so good to see you! Wow. That was nice.
Marjorie and I went out on another Happy Hour at Crust Italian Restaurant the next day and just shared a Meat and Cheese tray with our wine.  So good to see her too.  She is planning a trip to Vietnam and was one of the people responsible for my travel to Oaxaca for the first time.

Gringo "Day of the Dead"...called Halloween....is still a month away!

Thursday I made arrangement to take my Grandson Roman out to dinner with his flatmate Diallo.  We hadn't seen each other in some time so had a great visit.

This is my last day...Good Morning Arizona.

I will finish packing and depart tomorrow at 6:30 am for the airport and Oaxaca. It has been a short trip but thanks to Jeannie for her hospitality, I was able to accomplish a lot and will be taking "almost" the last of my "stuff" back to Oaxaca.  She left yesterday for Sacramento, California to see a Jethro Tull concert. She another senior that doesn't sit still...Africa is next for her. Hopefully Japan for me! My H.School..classmate Becky sent fellow students this to share with you:

Bye for now.
