END OF OCTOBER BEGIN NOVEMBER ....AND LOS DIAS DE MUERTES CELEBRATION

We decided to visit our restaurateur friends, Salma and Arnud. I enjoyed Shrimp and Pasta while Carol had a Tuna Ceviche Salad.

Another great Breakfast at Mixtu...but I was hungry and curious so ordered two items. Musila (grains, nuts, fruits with Almond milk) and French Toast stuffed with cream cheese, topped with fruit. I took some of that home.

PEDRO MOVED SINCE I CAME IN

The Celebration of the Dias de Muerta started weeks ago with the decorations and Marigold flowers covering Oaxaca along with skeletons dressed up for the event.  Today I saw my first parade with a band and a "Conga Line".

                            CHIHUAHUA WITH BAT WINGS

Then I wandered....

The parade was starting.  This is the first in honor of the Angelitos...children.  Tonight at dusk...families will head for the Cemeteries all over Mexico with chairs, food, Mescal, music, personal things to honor the children who have passed away and visit with them the entire night...at dawn they will return home until the next night to honor others in their family.  The grave sites have been decorated with photos and flowers days in advance. Songs will be sung , food shared , prayers , stories told remembrances shared and communed with the ancestors, family and friends this night and the next few nights. This is a very personal family sharing to be respected!

This parade is for and in honor of the children both living and dead.

The following day I took another walk about.

I was on my way home but ran into a blockade where I was to take the bus.  Another parade was starting so I called Carol to meet me while we watched the second of four or five parades over the Dia de Muerte.

THIS SPECIAL OUTFIT DESERVED A FOLLOWER CARRYING A BOUQUET OF MARIGOLDS WHEREVER HE WENT TO HONOR HIM.

STILTS

The end of the night for me!  I have been to 2 or 3 of these affairs in homes, parties and in the cemeteries.  Salma and Arnud's family home and different cemeteries around Oaxaca...one I almost got crushed in the crowd. I will include some photos of these occasions now....

Ok ...back to the food.  Carol suggested breakfast at a restaurant just down her street.  Can't remember the name but it was pretty good.  I had Croque Madame with Poached Eggs covered with Cheese and stuffed with Ham.  She had their version of Huevos Rancheros.

Not happy after a day shopping with happy Norma. Off to create an Ofrenda...needs to write.

After a great night's sleep I left for Mixtu to have Muesli for Breakfast.  It had smoke coming off of it when I opened the lid!

The lid on my bowl.

Smoke gave it a nice flavor!

That evening I decided to take a long walk around my new neighborhood and have dinner.  I ran into my friend Ian and enjoyed a brief chat before heading for Chavales Grill for Pizza.
