We ended the month of June on Sunday with a big rain storm. I enjoyed spending the whole day inside watching it....and listening to Nina Simon, Amy Winehouse, and more. Nice. Nina I've loved since the 60's and Amy I really knew nothing about but excellent Blues. I should take a day like this once a month at least.
My Dominos game was moved up a day because Maddie leaves for North Carolina tomorrow. She beat me real good this morning. We had a nice late breakfast at ONO. My photograph I took of a painting, was to be transferred to Canvas and ready for pick-up last Friday, then Saturday, and then Monday...so I thought for sure it would be ready. NO...I started to say...OK tomorrow? Then I knew it still wouldn't be ready so he said 20 minutes. I went to Margrite and Margol one of my favorite Coffee shops for a snack...then stopped in the Textile Museum and returned...5 more minutes !? I waited there, picked it up and took a taxi home.
Tuna Salad Sandwich for Maddie while I had a great breakfast.
Then dessert while waiting for my Canvas Photo.
BACK FRONTTextiles are really not my thing but when you see the work that goes into along with the results you do get to appreciate it more.

Overcast when I arrived home with my Canvas Photo of a Painting
My neighbor Jeannie, now roommate, when I am staying in Scottsdale...sent me a copy of her photo of me from my first visit back to Vietnam and SE Asia in 1998 I'm guessing. People I care about and keep framed photos of:
Ah...those were the days...eh!?
Lee and I went out to Ayuk last night for dinner. We had two Mocktails, Soup, Salad, and Grilled Beef with Mashed Potatoes and Veggies. Total with tip: 675 pesos
$37.
Bon Appetite!
Today was overcast but no rain until the evening. I went to a close by "Denny's" style restaurant called Del Jardin in Casa Barro plaza. I do love there wine pour. I had a Berry Salad which were cranraisons. Still hungry I ordered a Cubana Torta with Russian Salad. All were good but had to take half the Cubana home for a snack tomorrow. Total bill Wine 95 p, Salad 135 p, Cubana 120 p Tip 50 p...4oo Pesos = $22.
I returned home satisfied with the wonderful service, freshest peanuts, and delicious food.
Slept well and woke to the first real sunrise in a month.
Hope you are not looking at this in your phone...open full! The clouds are out too.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! I will attend our annual celebration in Huayapam. The picnic will feature grilled hamburgers and bratwurst (grilled
portobello mushroom burgers as a vegan option), accompanied by a
variety of side dishes. Desserts will round out the meal. Beverage choices
will include water, lemonade and iced tea. Beer and wine will also be
available at a Cash Bar. We arrived on time and it was really nice to see many friends that have been enjoying their spring/summer as I have been. I sat with Zoe and Pattie, two of my favorites. I took some photos then they started serving food right away. Everyone was in line. The Jimenez Brothers showed up to provide the music. It was so different to see them perform instead of working on my patio or something. They were great and earned every bit of what they made, by going table to table singing for over an hour. Everyone enjoyed their Mexican Songs and some sang along. The food spread was excellent and I had a Broiled Hot Dog instead of the Hamburger I usually have. It was a Western N.Y. thing. We always celebrated the 4th at our Grandparents home with the Attica Prison in the background, fresh Watermelon from the Garden along with Strawberry Shortcake! Miss family and those days.
I bought these: The Four Elements at a small sale Linda, the owner had of some of her Folk Art Collection. Two hours went fast. I couldn't take photos of the food with both hands full and so many friends to visit that I had not seen in Months. She will deliver them to my home tomorrow. Returned to the waiting Van and home with a FULL stomach and a big smile. Today is another wonderful summer's day. Windows open, sunshine and a pleasant breeze. Off to play pool.
Got beat 6 games in a row by Ian, a young serious Mexican pool player. Very enjoyable. Stopped at Ayuk for lunch. They redid the outside...major necessary improvement to make this remote place noticeable. My lunch was so good, I ordered another of the same to take home!
I couldn't fine the owner to pay or take the Folk Art ceramic figurines called The Four Elements I bought, but she called the next day and delivered them to me

I had not been to "Humar" Restaurant in a long time. It was overdue. I took the bus and Arnud and Salma had changed the menu a bit since my last visit. I spotted Fried Fresh Baja Oysters with Chips and ordered it along with a Smoked Clam and Oyster Pate for an appetizer. Both were outstanding , as usual. Humar specializes in Seafood dishes as well as outstanding Mexican food.
Lovely smiling, friendly and efficient waitress. Vince is teaching English to our Landlord's grandson...and organized a parade of two with Vince providing the music.
I headed for my Divorced Eggs Breakfast
I had lunch with Bill and his partner Enrique at Terranova in Reforma. We all had the Consommé with Spinach , Meatballs and Rice and Chocolate Cake for Dessert. Bill just returned from a cruise with friends from Santiago Chile, around the Horn and up to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil where they spent another few days up in the Andes before returning. He loves to plan these things and get willing people to tag along. He is good at getting extraordinary deals. Didn't get any photos except to and from the restaurant. The streets were backed up for hours while the city decided to repaint the crosswalks during the afternoon rush hour???
Friday evening I met Chris at Tres Bistro in the Zocalo and had my usual Salmon and Vegetables while he dined on Fish and Chips. We both had deserts then headed back home. NO FOOD Photos...I'm forgetting things as a age a bit.
Doug sent my his Photo of Christmas in July instead of 4th of July, on the Lake where he and his wife had retired. Big Fourth Family Celebrating with a Twist! Oaxaca scored 11th this year...
This way Chris....
I enjoyed a nice Coffee with a new friend Becky, that Allie introduced me to at the Fourth of July get together. Took more photos while near the Zocalo...lots of tourists pouring in for the next two week Guelagetza celebration.
The following 4 photos are Lee's photos
Dinner tonight at Ayuk with Dan and his wife Tere. He has consented to take a package to mail in the States to the VA for me. Much safer and reliable. Unfortunately, Ayuk was closed so we all went to Fortincito , a favorite of theirs and just up the street. The owner, who passed away a number of years ago, was a Beatles Fan. They serve excellent Mexican food but only one photo of Pork dish with Avocado that I had. I will return for more food with photos. Thank you Dan and Tere for the new restaurant and for taking my package to be mailed.
It was close to closing when we left so they let the dog out on the second level looking into the dining room. A few barks and the place was empty...great idea!
I passed by the destination for the parade earlier. A neighbor's birthday party. Will close this post and start a new to end the month of July and the Guelaguetza. All hotels are full now and tour buses packed. Adios!
